Phuket, August 3, 2024 – Early this morning (August 3, 2024), at approximately 06:40 AM, a fire broke out at a 3-story commercial building located at 20/10 Soi Khok Tanod, on the road leading to Kata Beach in Karon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket. The incident caused alarm among residents and businesses in the vicinity, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Upon receiving the report, firefighters from Karon Subdistrict Municipality, officers from Karon Police Station, and other relevant agencies swiftly responded to the scene. Multiple fire engines and water tankers were deployed to douse the rapidly escalating flames, working urgently to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. The prompt and coordinated efforts of all emergency personnel successfully brought the blaze under control within approximately 20 minutes.
The affected building is a 3-story commercial structure with various businesses operating within. The ground floor houses a restaurant, which provides breakfast services to guests of a hotel. The second floor also features a restaurant, and the third floor is occupied by a massage spa. Initial findings suggest the fire originated on the second-floor restaurant, believed to be caused by a spark from a light bulb near the elevator. Employees who discovered the fire attempted to use fire extinguishers, but the flames spread too rapidly to be contained.
The fire escalated quickly, particularly on the second and third floors, due to the presence of numerous highly flammable materials such as fabrics, massage cushions, and interior decorations. This led to intense flames and significant damage to the building's structure and contents across all three floors. However, thanks to the determined efforts of the firefighting team, the blaze was confined to the affected building and did not spread to neighboring properties, a crucial success in preventing widespread damage.
Currently, police and forensic investigators are conducting a thorough examination of the site to determine the precise cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage. Local residents and tourists who may have been affected are informed that the situation has returned to normal, and the route along Soi Khok Tanod is now safe for regular passage.
