What to Know Before Riding Around Kamala
The Kamala Hill road to Patong
The road south from Kamala to Patong climbs Kamala Hill — steep in places with tight bends. The views at the top are excellent but take it slowly, especially heading down toward Patong where the gradient is sharper. In the wet season (May–October), this road can have standing water on bends. Ride at 30–40 km/h on the descent.
The Kamala to Surin coastal route
North from Kamala, the road hugs the cliff above the sea before dropping to Surin Beach. This is one of the most scenic 10-minute rides on the island and is suitable for all experience levels in dry conditions. The road is narrow in places — give way to oncoming traffic on blind corners.
Parking in Kamala
Most villas and guesthouses have private parking. On the beachfront, there is informal motorbike parking near the beach access points. The main Kamala village area has no shortage of kerb parking. Avoid parking on the beach itself — fines apply in the high season.
Petrol near Kamala
The nearest full-size petrol station is on Kamala Beach Road (Route 4030), north of the village. There are also small roadside hand-pump points near the main junction. Fill up before the coastal road to Surin — there are no petrol options on that stretch.
